Southern California –
Charging Toward a Green Future!
With a new generation of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) expected to hit the U.S. market starting in late 2010, Southern California needs to be ready. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) with its partners from the Southern California Regional Plug-In Electric Vehicle Plan (SoCal EV) have launched SoCalEV.org to educate and receive feedback from potential PEV drivers in the region, so we can most effectively serve your plug-in needs. Please provide your input by taking our SoCal EV Survey.
Transportation is one of the largest and fastest growing contributors to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with climate change. The state of California has the highest ratio of car ownership in the world, while the transportation industry contributes more than 40% of statewide greenhouse gas emissions.
To address this pressing concern, President Obama has set a national goal of 1 million plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) on the streets by 2015, while the California Air Resources Board will lead the introduction and wide adoption of these vehicles through its zero emissions vehicle mandate.
In support of these goals, automakers are gearing up to launch a new generation of pure battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), collectively PEVs, expected to hit the U.S. market starting in late 2010.
With its car-crazy culture, Southern California needs to be ready. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced the Southern California Regional Plug-In Electric Vehicle Plan (SoCal EV) in conjunction with its regional partners. SoCal EV is a collaboration of cities, utilities, automakers, local and regional government agencies, businesses and others in the Southern California region who are actively engaged in supporting and building the necessary infrastructure for the commercial launch of electric vehicles.
SoCal EV will continue to evolve and add new partners as the region becomes plug-in ready. Please come back to this website frequently, and check us out as we add new information.
